SFMA is teaming up Project Evergreen, the national nonprofit devoted to creating a greener, healthier, cooler Earth, for the second year in a row to participate in a field rebuild at SFMA’s upcoming Annual Conference & Exhibition. The field rebuild will take place on Sunday, January 12 at Howard Park in West Palm Beach, Florida to makeover the 13-acre park’s softball field.

The project will include:

• Leveling and refurbishing the existing softball infields
• Refurbishing the warning tracks
• Layout new grass edges along 1st and 3rd base lines, and mark out in the field
• Layout and mark new grass edges on warning track along each foul line, and around the entire outfield perimeter.
• Re-grade the warning track to cut high spots, fill low spots and remove all weeds
• Apply and spread approximately 25 tons of native warning track stone to provide 1 inch of topdressing to the entire warning track.
• Inspect and adjust the irrigation heads to ensure proper coverage in the outfield and along the foul lines.
• Inspect and replace remaining irrigation heads in the outfield/soccer field.
• Core aerate, fertilize and slit seed the entire outfield turf from the infield radius to the warning track. Approx. 60,000 square feet.
• Layout and rebuild the pitcher’s mound and batter’s boxes/catcher’s box and install a new home plate
• Remove all infield mix that has bled onto the sidewalks and into the player bench areas.
• Re-grade the infield skin surface to pull material that has migrated towards the perimeter of the infield along the base lines, around home plate and infield radius. Fill the large low area in the center of the infield.
• Top dress the infield with 2 tons of conditioner
• Refurbish the player benches in each dugout.

Volunteers can sign up through conference registration. Attendees will be able to walk to the Volunteer Field Rebuild from SFMA’s host hotel, the Hilton West Palm Beach.
