SFMA Partners with Project Evergreen on Field Rebuild

More than 100 SFMA sports field managers worked in partnership with Project Evergreen (PE), and other groups including the city of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, local businesses and residents to rebuild a local Phoenix field. The project took place on Monday, January 21 at the half-a-century old Lindo Park.

In addition to sports field managers, lawn care professionals, landscape contractors, and neighborhood youth assisted with the transformation of the field. The project’s value is estimated to be in excess of $50,000.

This is SFMA’s first large-scale volunteer project held in conjunction with its annual conference.

The project included laying out new grass edges along the 1st and 3rd base lines, fertilizing and seeding the outfield — nearly 60,000 sq. ft., irrigation upgrades including installing new irrigation heads, rebuilding the pitcher’s mound and batter’s boxes, installing sod, and other improvements.

PE is the national nonprofit devoted to creating a greener, healthier, cooler Earth. They have renovated more than 32 parks, and any city parks and recreation department and/or a community group can nominate a park for revitalization. SFMA has worked in partnership with PE since 2016 on an annual Winning Green Spaces Contest.
