Each month two speakers presenting at the 2020 National SFMA Conference and Exhibition in West Palm Beach, Florida will be featured. Don’t miss the educational opportunities offered at the conference!
Jeff Salmond, CSFM is the VP of Projects/Corporate Development for United Turf and Track. On Tuesday, January 14, he will be presenting “So You’re Thinking About a Career Move…” with Marcus Dean, CSFM and Brian Winka, CSFM. This session will be repeated on Thursday, January 16.
Three CSFMs will give a presentation based off their experiences of working in various SFMA membership categories that have transitioned to the commercial side of the industry. The presentation is designed to answer questions for those who may be thinking about a career move but are not sure what they can expect.
Attendees will learn:
1. Pros and cons of working as a commercial member versus a sports turf manager – you can still be a sports turf manager.
2. Timing is everything. Making the right move is just as, if not more, important than the move itself.
3. Working on the commercial side can be just as challenging and rewarding as being a sports turf manager.
Marc Moran, CSFM is an Agriculture Teacher at Atlee High School in Virginia. On Tuesday, January 14 he will be presenting “Breaking the Barrier: Communicating with Coaches and Administration” with John Corbin.
This presentation will focus on communication with coaches as well as administration to develop a working plan that facilitates reduction of wear in high wear areas, improved player and team performance and a stronger connection with the coach and the sports turf manager. This will be explained from a sports turf managers perspective as well as that of a coach.
Attendees will learn about:
1. Building relations with coaches and user groups in order to improve player and field performance.
2. Developing a realistic short- and long-term plan that meets the needs of the coaches and user groups.
3. Working with coaches to identify, troubleshoot and/or repair minor problems should they arise.
