Description of Facility

Pinnacle Grounds is the brand new training center for Sporting Kansas City, US Soccer, and Children’s Mercy Sports Science. The grounds consist of two state of the art artificial turf fields, the “superpitch” (7.1 Acre field) comprised of Northbridge Bermuda Grass. A Toro lynx 2-way decoder system with valve-in head control. We also have 30+ Acres of landscaping including “Native Areas” with grasses and wildflowers. Sporting Kansas City also has three other properties which our grounds team oversees. Totaling 28 fields, and 90+ Acres to maintain.

Position Summary

The Assistant Sports Turf Manager is responsible for assisting the Director of Grounds and Turf Operations Manager in day-to-day maintenance of field and grounds, supervision of grounds maintenance staff, and training employees in equipment operation (hands-on training) at Pinnacle Grounds.

Essential Functions of the Position

1. Sets up and assigns staff to daily grounds maintenance schedule, training, games, and events

2. Supervises groundskeepers and part-time staff members

3. Makes recommendations in staffing (discipline, hiring, terminations, performance reviews)

4. Trains grounds maintenance staff (hands-on direction, equipment operation, and all aspects of grounds maintenance)

5. Acting Field Manager when Turf Operations Manager is absent

6. Supervises, orders, and applies fertilizer and pesticide treatments as needed.

7. Oversees and maintains irrigation systems

8. Ensures equipment is clean, operational, and maintained in proper order and fashion

9. Ensures all tools and equipment is returned to their designated

10. Checks out with supervisor before leaving scheduled or unscheduled shift

11. Attends role call and mandatory departmental meetings

12. Be able to perform all duties of everyone under their supervision

13. Performs other grounds related duties as assaigned or requested by his/her supervises/managers

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

1. Must have a college degree or be degree seeking

2. Four Years minimum golf or grounds experience

3. Must be able to identify turf deficiencies and pest problems

4. Posses a restricted pesticide application license (90 days) Kansas or Missouri

5. Understand the fundamentals of the game of soccer and how the practices of field maintenance affect the gamer of soccer

6. Be able to speak, read, and understand English
