Second Assistant Groundskeeper

This position’s primary task is to assist the Head Groundskeeper and the Operations Manager/Assistant Groundskeeper by being responsible for repairing and maintaining the PNC Field playing surface and its components as a safe, first class baseball field by performing daily turf, dirt and water management; timely fertility and cultural practices; game preparation techniques and short and long term maintenance, planning and budgeting. The Operations Manager/ Assistant Groundskeeper will also assist the Facilities Department from November 1st – February 28th.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise, mentor and train seasonal interns and part time game day staff.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of the playing field that includes, but is not limited to turf (mowing,edging, fertilizing, aerating, topdressing, overseeding, discovery/ control of weeds, insects and diseases) and dirt ( infield skin, baselines, home plate, pitcher’s mound, bullpens, warning track) management.
  • Assist in the control of the entire PNC Field irrigation system that includes, but is not limited to, proper water management of the playing surface, periodic maintenance checks, repairing of leaking lines or valves and winterization.
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe manner and keep it in excellent working condition.
  • Assist in the preparation of the playing field for pregame batting practice by setting up cage, screens, mats and protective field covers.
  • Assist in the preparation of the playing field for game use by grooming, chalking baselines and batters boxes, painting outfield foul lines and coaches boxes.
  • Responsible for maintenance and care of the outside grounds, including upkeep and maintenance to the lawn, and landscapes to include mowing, weed discovery and control, insect control, planting and maintaining shrubs, trees and flowers.
  • Mow and maintain lawn seating areas as well as batters eye.
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of all infield tarp pulls.
  • Track Grounds department inventory.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the coaches and players.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the umpires to assist in weather related manners.
  • Assist Facilities department with duties that include, but are not limited to HVAC, painting, snow removal on outside sidewalks, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, preventative maintenance during the winter months.
  • Other duties as assigned

The Scranton Wilkes Barre Railriders are the Triple A Affiliate of the New York Yankees and are located in Lacawanna county in the Northeast corner of Pennsylvania.
