TITLE: Crew Lead, Grounds Crew

DEPARTMENT: Ballpark Operations

REPORTS TO: Manager of Field Operations

DESCRIPTION:  Year-Round/Non-Expempt

Salary:  Hourly, level based on qualifications

Job Summary

This position works closely with the Manager of Field Operations in managing the daily field operations at AT&T Park. In addition to: being responsible for identifying and addressing field maintenance and equipment problems along with managing Day of Game Staff.

Position Requirements

  • Day-to-day management of the Day of Game Staff and Seasonal Supplemental Staff including, but not limited to assisting with scheduling input, mentoring, training, and providing input of performance management of incumbents in these roles.
  • Works closely with and assist Manager of Field Operations on all field and equipment maintenance activities.
  • Assign jobs to Day of Game Staff and see to the completion of given jobs.
  • Maintain and ensure that the playing field is up to the professional level of the San Francisco Giants and MLB standards.
  • Provide field preparation and recovery for non-baseball related events, including but not limited to, concerts, corporate events, fantasy batting practices, run the bases, graduations, and miscellaneous sporting events.
  • Identification and reporting of all field and equipment maintenance problems including fertilizers, irrigation, infield surfaces, clay areas (pitching mounds and plates), water management, tarping techniques and equipment operations.
  • Ability to work special events independently and make decisions that affect field conditions (i.e. ability to oversee events on the field and provide independent guidance on what is permitted in the moment, etc.).
  • Coordinate and work with various departments in the Giants organization as directed by the Manager Field Operations.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Director and Manager of Field Operations.



  • One to two years of experience in sports turf grass management
  • Prior experience in field management for non-baseball events
  • Supervisory experience
  • Must be able to work long unconventional hours during the baseball season when needed and assist with non-baseball related events
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
  • Work under high pressure situations and handle stressful environments
  • Coordinate and handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery
  • Strong work ethic accompanied with passion, enthusiasm, focus, creativity, and a positive outlook
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards


  • Two-year or Associates Degree in Turfgrass Science
  • Pesticide application license
  • Forklift certified
  • Prior experience maintaining turf equipment
