RSL TRAINING ACADEMY:

Real Salt Lake’s regional training center opened last year in Herriman, Utah, approximately 20 minutes southwest of Rio Tinto Stadium. The $80 million facility will serve as the daily training home for both of the club’s professional teams – Real Salt Lake (MLS) and Real Monarchs (USL) – while centralizing the club’s U-18, U-16 and future U-14 development academy youth selections.  The facility consists of five natural grass fields, one outdoor artificial stadium field, and two indoor artificial fields.

SUMMARY:

This entry level, at-will position will report to the Director of Fields and Grounds & the Fields and Grounds Superintendent.   Under their supervision, the Field Manager participates in the maintenance of the five natural grass fields and three artificial fields.  This position will be responsible for the day to day maintenance and will help supervise 3 part time workers.  They will monitor moisture levels, hand water, mow, aerate, fertilize, etc.  This position is a great opportunity to participate in the maintenance and establishment of the fields for one of the premier training facilities in Major League Soccer.  Offseason duties will include:  painting the facility, construction projects, vehicle maintenance, facility maintenance, and helping at Rio Tinto Stadium as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Candidate will be able to perform sports field maintenance labor such as:
    • Sod cutting and installation
    • Toro Sentinel Irrigation programing, installation, and maintenance
    • Fertilizing with liquid and granular products
    • Artificial Turf Maintenance and Repair
    • Field markings and logo painting
    • Mowing, trimming and use of blowers
  • The operation and maintenance of power equipment such as:
    • Toro Reel and Rotary Mowers
    • Tractors
    • Toro Utility vehicles
    • Trimmers
    • Toro Top-dressers
    • Aerators

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

MININIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields; the seeding, sodding and maintenance practices for sports field turfgrass; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers, herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including pumps and automatic controls.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record
  • Able to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • 40+ hours a week
  • One-year minimum experience working with Sports Turf required.
  • Two or four year degree in turfgrass suggested but not required

The job requires regularly lifting/pushing up to 30 pounds and occasionally lifting/pushing more than 50 pounds or exerting heavy force, in a wide disparity or environmental conditions. The job involves standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, etc.  Also, working long hours in the early mornings/late evenings.

START DATE:  July 8th, 2019

PAY RANGE:  $35,000 – $40,000 DOE
