Head Groundskeeper

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position reports directly to the Assistant General Manager of Ballpark Operations. This person will coordinate, supervise, and oversee all aspects of grounds management. The position oversees and implements budget and procurement processes within established guidelines. This person will provide professional consultation or undertake the lead role in athletic field/grounds renovation projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement schedules for the management of athletic fields, ornamental landscapes, lawn maintenance, and grounds maintenance that are associated with the stadium
  • Manage all field prep including, but not limited to, turf management, fertilization, and disease control, edging, mound and plate prep, warning track maintenance, and infield playing surface maintenance
  • Facilitate the infield tarp while monitoring weather conditions to ensure playability and player safety
  • Perform post-game field and turf maintenance as necessary
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe manner and keep in excellent working condition
  • Prepare and carry out an off-season field/turf maintenance program as well as stadium shut down and winterization
  • Assist the Operations Department with stadium operation tasks that relate to the general upkeep and cleanliness of the ballpark
  • Hire, schedule, train, and manage all interns and part-time, game day field staff
  • Develop a relationship with home and visiting managers to coordinate pre-game batting practice and attend to any specific needs, if possible
  • Maintain a positive relationship with umpires
  • Maintain financial records of all funds and labor expenses for the department
  • Procurement of all materials required to administer a proven management program using approved vendors and within approved protocol
  • Field(s) set up and take down. Ensure that fields meet all criteria set forth by MiLB and MLB • Other related duties as required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years experience managing athletic fields
  • High level of integrity
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize goals
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Detail oriented and strong analytical skills
  • Strong team work ethic
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Must have strong people skills able to motivate staff to achieve goals
  • Have the ability to operate athletic field/grounds management related equipment
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekend, and holidays
  • Must be able to work all 70 home games plus high school/college games
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs
