The Lansing Lugnuts, Class-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, and Lansing Ignite, newest member of United Soccer League One, are currently seeking two a talented, experienced Assistant Head Groundskeeper to join the team!

The Lugnuts and Ignite make their home at beautiful Cooley Law School Stadium.  Built in 1996 for $20 million and renovated in 2015 for $15 million, Cooley Stadium seats 11,000, hosts 18 suites, and features multiple private picnic areas.  Prior to the start of the 2017 baseball season Jackson Field in Cooley Law School Stadium was completely renovated, starting the process that resulted in the 2018 Grounds Crew of the Year from the Midwest League.

SUMMARY:

  • The Assistant Groundskeepers are responsible for assisting in the overall up-keep and maintenance of all grounds at Cooley Law School Stadium for the Lansing Lugnuts and Lansing Ignite.  This will include not only the playing surface, but the outside grounds as well.  This position will assist in direct grounds crew members of at least 20 game/match day grounds employees that will be tasked to maintain a quality playing field and surrounding grounds.
  • A key component of this position will entail converting the field from baseball to soccer and back ten to twelve times per season while working closely with the players and coaches of both teams to accommodate their field use needs throughout the season.  The position also works directly with the City of Lansing to oversee City events set-up on the field.
  • The Assistant Groundskeepers  report s  directly to the Head Groundskeeper, and is required to work all Lugnuts home games and Ignite home matches (a total of 85 events or more per summer), special events that entail field use, as well as normal office hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years of turf/playing field maintenance for baseball OR soccer required
  • Baseball AND soccer field experience preferred
  • Acquiring or have Bachelor’s Degree or two year degree  in Turf Management or related field preferred
  • Managerial experience a plus
  • Detail-oriented

COMPENSATION:  Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

START DATE:  March/April
