Assistant Sports Turf Manager

The Assistant Sports Turf Manager will assist the Director of Sports Turf in the management, planning, and implementation of daily operations for project and maintenance work within the Sports Turf Department.  This role will oversee the daily maintenance of the contracted athletic fields and ensure they are up to GreenSource standards.  This role will help schedule, train, and develop all part-time and full-time groundskeepers, field technicians and equipment operators and will play a key role in the planning and execution of all sports turf maintenance/renovation practices and services.

Position Responsibilities:

[Turf, Infield, and Clay Surfaces Management]

  • Manage & schedule the Mowing, Irrigation, Integrated Pest Management, Cultivation, fertility applications, etc. for contracted customer properties/fields.
  • Evaluate and analyze existing conditions on a scheduled basis for all contracted customers.
  • Ensuring GreenSource rules and standards are being followed and met by all employees within the department on job sites.
  • Ensure safe use of all equipment as well as handling maintenance requests and conduct preventative maintenance of equipment.

[Administration & Management]

  • Assign, train, and maintain work standard and follow up on tasks given to department employees.
  • Schedule and review weekly hours for employees.
  • Inventory and aid in stocking/purchasing supplies, as needed.


  • Liaison between Company and Customers in regard to all athletic field needs and services.
  • Assist crews in field work when necessary.
  • Ensure contract reports and deliverables are being completed and submit on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Maintain SDS sheets and fertilizer application records on a weekly and monthly basis.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • 2 or 4 year Degree in Turf Management required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in maintaining athletic fields.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing a staff of part-time/full-time employees.
  • Florida Pesticide Applicator’s License is a plus.
  • Current/Valid Driver’s License with a positive DMV report.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) is a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. More than 40 hours per week often required.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
