Track Field Manager


The Georgia Tech Athletic Association is seeking a highly motivated self-starter for the position of Track Field Manager. The candidate must exhibit our core values of Character, Excellence, Innovation and Teamwork. Due to the logistical challenges we face in Downtown Atlanta he/she must possess great organizational skills and be adaptive to a fast pace ever changing environment. He/she primary role will be maintaining the Griffin Track Field and Brock Indoor Football Practice Facility. This position will also assist The Director of Athletic Grounds in the Maintenance of Historic Grant Field at Bobby Dodd Stadium. During the spring he/she will be required to work baseball and softball games. The Georgia Tech Grounds Crew works as a team with individual Field Managers that act as a point of contact for their facility.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning and executing the maintenance of athletic fields at a high level.
  • Operates fertilizer and chemical applications and/or operates chemical application equipment.
  • Field painting experience.
  • Baseball/Softball specific: infield, mound and home plate maintenance
  • The operation of power equipment such as: reel mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, blowers, trimmers, top dressers, aerators, verti-cutters, and Bobcats
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields; cultural maintenance practices for sports field turfgrass; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners, herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system.
  • High level of understanding of the NCAA requirements for field layouts and markings
  • Ability to work long hours (nights and weekends)
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record


  • 3 years of experience working on highly maintained athletic fields or golf course
  • Knowledge of NCAA standards for football, baseball, softball, soccer and track
  • Spraying/ Fertilizer application experience
  • 2 or 4 year degree in a turfgrass related area of study is preferred
