Softball Field Manager – Georgia Tech Athletic Association

The Georgia Tech Athletic Association is seeking a highly motivated self-starter for the position of Softball Field Manager. The candidate must exhibit our core values of Character, Excellence, Innovation and Teamwork. Due to the logistical challenges we face in Downtown Atlanta he/she must possess great organizational skills and be adaptive to a fast pace ever changing environment.

The Softball Field Manager will be the direct contact for the Georgia Tech Softball Staff and perform all aspects of the daily maintenance for Shirley Clements Mewborn Field. The $4.9 million on-campus home of the Yellow Jackets opened in 2009 and boasts a Latitude 36, sand based, 0% graded outfield with a Dura-Edge Pro infield skin. This position is not limited to the softball field and will assist in the maintenance of all 9 acres of sports turf when needed. He/she will be required to work all home games for football and baseball when it does not interfere with softball commitments. Due to Georgia Tech’s unique location we host numerous external events that may require overtime as well.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning and executing the maintenance of athletic fields at a high level
  • Softball specific: infield, mound and home plate maintenance
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields; cultural maintenance practices for sports turf; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners, herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system
  • Operates fertilizer and chemical applications and/or operates chemical application equipment
  • Field painting: logos, game lines and etc.
  • The operation of power equipment such as: reel mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, blowers, trimmers, top dressers, aerators, verti-cutters, and Bobcats
  • Ability to work long hours (nights and weekends)
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record

Experience

  • 3 years of experience working on highly maintained athletic fields or golf course
  • Knowledge of NCAA standards for football, baseball, softball, soccer and track
  • Spraying/ Fertilizer application experience
  • 2 or 4 year degree in a turfgrass related area of study is preferred
