Dayton Dragons Assistant Sports Turf Manager

POSITION:   Seasonal Assistant Sports Turf Manager

Start date: March 1st

End Date: October 31st

Pay: $12.00 – $15.00 hourly, 40 hours per week, Overtime as needed

PREFERENCE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WHO:

  • Have a college or certificate degree in turfgrass science or related agricultural field
  • Have experience managing professional or collegiate baseball fields
  • Have at least one year of experience in a supervisor position in the sports turf industry
  • Are able train, assign tasks, and manage a crew in all other ways
  • Are able to operate and perform mechanical work on a wide variety of equipment
  • Are well versed in cultural & agronomic practices necessary to maintain high level turf
  • Are well versed in maintenance of clay, infield skin, and edges
  • Are well versed in moisture management and irrigation system maintenance
  • Are passionate, detail oriented, able to work in all weather conditions, and willing to work long hours including weekends and holidays

DUTIES: This position requires managing a 15+ person grounds crew, work unsupervised effectively, and finishing duties on time. The Seasonal Assistant Sports Turf Manager will be responsible for completing all work to the high standards set forth by MiLB and the Dayton Dragons.

FACILITY: Fifth Third Field has a sand based grass playing surface, comprised of Kentucky Bluegrass, originating from Tuckahoe Turf in New Jersey. The field was renovated following the 2011 season, replacing drainage, irrigation, rootzone and sod. Fifth Third Field, located downtown Dayton Ohio, is home to the Cincinnati Reds Single-A affiliate Dayton Dragons. Along with 70 Dragons home games, Fifth Third Field hosts 70+ other on field events including kids camps, high school baseball, college baseball, and corporate sponsor events. The Dayton Dragons have the longest sellout streak in professional sports currently at 1,316 consecutive sellouts.
