Assistant Groundskeeper

Qualified Applicants: A Bachelor’s Degree in Turf Management, Agronomy or related field is preferred. Associate’s degree will be considered with demonstrated experience and track record. Some prior management experience preferred. Experience with Bermuda grass fields (Tifway 419) preferred.

Summary: The Assistant Groundskeeper is responsible for repairing and maintaining the Spirit Communications Park playing surface and its surrounding components as a safe, first-class baseball field by performing daily turf, dirt and water management, game preparation and short and long-term maintenance planning. The Assistant Groundskeeper will also assist the Operations Department in the offseason.


  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of the playing field that includes, but is not limited to turf (mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerating, top-dressing, discovery/control of weeds, insects, and diseases) and dirt (infield skin, baselines, home plate, pitcher’s mound, bullpens, warning track) management
  • Help to lead game staff with tasks and assignments
  • Oversee the preparation of the field for pre-game batting practice by setting up cage, screens, mats, and protective field covers
  • Help to manage the preparation of the playing field for game use by grooming field, chalking base path foul lines, painting outfield foul lines and coaches boxes
  • Partially responsible for vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Participate in front office programs and projects
  • Assisting in maintaining field year-round
  • Help identify any issues on the field or grounds
  • Coordinate field set up for amateur baseball games, soccer, football, concerts, and any other special events taking place on the playing surface
  • Assist in planning and decision making at Spirit Communications Park
  • Other duties as assigned by Head Groundskeeper, in-season and off-season
