Parks and Recreation Worker II – Hogadon & Athletics

Incumbents are responsible for a variety of skilled labor and custodial tasks related to an assigned division. Responsibilities may include routine physical labor work, custodial and minor maintenance tasks, and/or maintaining snow. Receives direction from higher level recreation and/or parks supervisory and management staff.

Typical Class Essential Duties:
1.  Performs a variety of tasks as assigned:

Manual labor: Cultivating and fertilizing flowers, grass, and shrubs; shoveling,  mowing and basic irrigation; clearing and maintaining landfill ditches; storm water maintenance; repairing and maintaining roadways; and working with crews performing basic construction and maintenance repairs in a variety of settings.

Custodial duties: Cleaning and disinfecting floors, windows, walls, counters and other surfaces/fixtures; disinfecting and emptying trash receptacles; dusting furniture, walls, machines, or equipment; cleaning and supplying restrooms; and other related activities.

Trail maintenance: Smoothing out bumps and moguls, maintaining snow depth in high traffic areas, reshaping and rebuilding trails, pushing out snow from snow fences and snow drifts, spreading man-made snow and packing fresh snow.

2.  May operate a variety of equipment and tools including dump trucks with snow plows, front end loaders, backhoes, boom trucks, forklifts, light sanitation vehicles, tractors, mowers, jackhammers, snow making and grooming equipment, hand tools, auto-scrubbers, buffers, high pressure washers, and other related tools, equipment and vehicles as needed.

3.  May perform basic inspection, repair and maintenance of equipment.

4.  May assist with installing street signs, barriers, and painting street markings.

6.  May monitor and maintain supplies inventory and related records.

7.  May monitor or adjust chemical levels of specialized systems such as fountains, pools or ice arenas as assigned.

8.  May assist with work on special projects and training new staff.

9.  Provides general customer service and communicates with the public regarding fees, policies, rules and general information at the facility or event within the Parks and Recreation Division.

10.  Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.

11.  Follows all City safety procedures. Reports all accidents/incidents immediately to supervisor.

12.  Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

  • Safely operate, maintain and repair a variety of equipment and hand tools.
  • Perform a variety of manual tasks for prolonged periods, often under adverse weather conditions.
  • Access and maneuver difficult terrain while carrying a variety of hand tools.
  • Work in holes, dig trenches, climb ladders and clean-up work sites in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Safely work around pesticides and chemicals in different environmental settings.
  • Be flexible with changing assignments.
  • Communicate effectively verbally.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and direction.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Skills (position requirements at entry):
Skill in:

  • Operating in a courteous, knowledgeable and tactful manner with staff and general public.

Training, Experience & Certifications:
Training and Experience

  • Minimum of six months of custodial and/or laborer experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Licensing and Certification Requirements

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Wyoming Class B CDL Driver’s License
