Assistant Facility Superintendent

Job Description:

The Carmel Dads’ Club is one of the nations largest not-for-profit youth sports organization that offers 11 different sports across approx. 85A’s of playing surfaces that served just over 12,000 youth athletes in 2019. We are currently seeking an Assistant Facility Superintendent that would assist the Facility Superintendent with all aspects of facility set-up and maintenance on a variety of youth athletic fields. This would include, but not limited to, daily management of the Facility Staff and mowing crews, routine monitoring and maintenance of the playing surfaces as well as surrounding common areas, turf equipment operation and maintenance, irrigation operation and maintenance, and overseeing/performing both minor as well as major construction projects/repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with Facility Superintendent to hire, train, coordinate and supervise Facility Staff. That staff includes: Full-time, part-time, seasonal and volunteers
  • Assist in Facility set-up, maintenance and break down depending on season
  • Assist in all aspects of field maintenance; mowing, aeration, topdressing, over-seeding, fertilization (application, calibration and record keeping), sod work and mound/plate/infield repairs.
  • Monitor Facility Buildings and structures; perform routine maintenance, repairs and winterize.
  • Operate, repair and control multiple irrigation systems at 10 different irrigated Facilities.
  • Track product and equipment inventories and conduct orders as necessary
  • Create and conduct volunteer training programs and overall safety training to help assist Facility Team
  • Make determinations on field closures due to inclement weather and communicate those decisions accordingly
  • Attend conferences, shows and events to maintain continued education and certification(s) upkeep.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study
  • At least 2 years experience in related field (golf, sports turf, commercial turf, landscaping)
  • Must posses or have the ability to obtain Indiana Commercial Pesticide Applicator License
  • Both equipment and irrigation maintenance/repairs a plus
  • Ability to operate standard sports turf equipment
  • Strong ability to work independently and at times effectively supervise others
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively communicate with managers, staff and volunteers
  • Computer skills a plus
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs multiple times per day
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must have ability to pass a detailed background check
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, etc.)
