Assistant Groundskeeper

Summary

The Albuquerque Isotopes, award winning Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, are seeking a Full-Time Assistant Groundskeeper.  The Assistant Groundskeeper will provide direct support to the Head Groundskeeper, relative to the maintenance and repair of the playing field, as well as the surrounding landscaped areas.  Additionally, the Assistant Groundskeeper will be responsible for the management of the Game Day Grounds Crew and occasional management of outside events taking place at Isotopes Park.  Isotopes Park has a well-developed, long standing history of excellence in sports turf management, and the willingness to learn from, adapt to, and execute the existing cultural practices, while contributing to the continuance to grow and improve, will be paramount.

Duties

The Assistant Groundskeeper is responsible for mowing, edging, skin maintenance, clay repair, mound construction/repair, granular and spray fertilization, sod work, management of game day crew, painting lines/boxes, setup and break down of batting practice, overseeing all in game grounds activities including infield drags and weather-related tarp situations, irrigation system maintenance/repair, moisture management of all surfaces, light construction projects, standard equipment maintenance,  interviewing/hiring game day grounds crew, all other duties as assigned by the Head Groundskeeper.

Education/Experience

Turf Management or related degree is preferred, but not required.  A minimum of 2 years experience in a professional baseball setting is required, with experience as a Head Groundskeeper/Crew Leader being preferred.  Experience setting up and managing outside events within a baseball stadium setting is also preferred.

Skills

Ability to learn and adapt to the cultural practices and management style as currently executed at Isotopes Park is a must.  Self motivation is extremely important.  There is a heavy emphasis on ability to communicate verbally, and in various written forms.  Ability to lead a crew is required.  Comfortably lifting and maneuvering weights in excess of 50 pounds regularly is necessary.  Ability to operate mowers, tractors, utility carts, aerators and all basic grounds keeping equipment is required.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is required.
