Jody Gill, CSFM

Blue Valley School District, Overland Park, KSZ

Jody has been building and maintaining sports fields for over 30 years. For the last 20 years, he has been the Grounds Coordinator for the Blue Valley School District in Overland Park, Kansas where he is responsible for 38 schools on 1,300 acres spread over 91 square miles including 105 athletic fields on 200 acres. He was a co-founder of the Mo-Kan Chapter of the STMA and has served in every executive cabinet position. He has served as a Board member for the Missouri Valley Turfgrass Association, Advisory Board Member for the Longview Community College Turf Management Program, numerous STMA committees and task forces, STMA Board member and SAFE Foundation Trustee. His crew earned the STMA Football Field of the Year award in 2004. He became a CSFM in 2009. He has written numerous articles and presented at regional and national conferences. He travels 4-5 weeks each year to paint large grass logos for several professional auto racing series events. Family time includes coaching several sports, camping, fishing and watersports. He lives on Raintree Lake in Lees Summit, Missouri with his wife Tammy. They have 3 children, Erin, Caroline and Curtis.

Vision for STMA

The STMA is truly an awesome organization. Just think about the impact that the members of this organization have had on sports all over the world. Our skills, abilities and efforts help teams and individuals win State, National and even World Championships. I have been fortunate to have served STMA in many capacities over the years. I would be honored to serve as Secretary/Treasurer and as the first STMA President from the K12 Schools membership category.

Although each of our membership categories are unique and different, we share the common goal of being experts on the field and partners in the game. As an association of professionals, we must strive to be the first place people go to get information on sports field management, environmental responsibility and safer fields. In just a few short years, the tools of our industry have dramatically changed. From transit level and tape measure surveying to rotating laser and now to GPS grading. We are using drones to gather data for 3D mapping and modeling. We are even evaluating crop, tree and turf health using NIR equipped high resolution cameras mounted on GPS controlled drones. Soon we will find amazing new uses for GPS drones at all levels within our industry. We must embrace the new technology and be among the leaders who develop new uses for it and continue to find ways to be more efficient and effective.

The business world is rapidly changing as well. As more sales occur through various outlets provided by social media, will business pull back on trade show budgets? How will this impact STMA revenues? In order to maintain our relevance, fiscal health and continue to be the leader in sports field management, we must have serious conversations about the STMA business and conference model of the future. At the same time, we must continue to adapt and strengthen our collaborative relationships with other professional associations and increase our social media presence to enhance our professionalism and spread our message about playing field quality, sustainability and safety.

Sarah Martin attended Colorado State University graduating with a degree in Landscape Horticulture and Turfgrass Management. She has worked in A, AA and AAA minor league baseball as well as at the home of the Brewers Spring Training in Phoenix. For the past 16 years Sarah has been employed with the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. She manages the Reach 11 Sports Complex which is comprised of 18 soccer fields (1 artificial, 3 native soil, 14 sand base) and 4 little league baseball fields (2 native soil, 2 tot turf artificial for ADA games). Ms. Martin has been a member of the National STMA since 1998 as well as being active in her local chapters. She currently holds the position of Vice-President of the Arizona STMA.

Vision for STMA

My vision for the STMA is to continue to increase professionalism and awareness of the jobs that Sports Turf Managers do through education, community outreach and networking. It is important that we promote our profession as a respectable and highly educated group of individuals. To do this we need to attract membership and participation from all levels of Sports Turf workers, management and supervisors. Not only this, but to impress upon General Managers, Administrators, Coaches and others who hire and work directly with Sports Turf staff know how important it is to have knowledgeable Sports Turf Managers and crews working for the safety and playability of all surfaces.

Secretary/Treasurer, Jimmy Simpson, CSFM

Town of Cary, Cary, NC

Jimmy Simpson, CSFM has worked in the turfgrass industry for almost 20 years. He graduated from NC State University in 2002 with a B.S. in Agronomy concentrating in Turfgrass Management. He began working full-time in the industry while still a student when he was hired as Interim Head Groundskeeper for the AAA Durham Bulls Baseball Club in May 2001; he was later hired permanently. He is employed by the Town of Cary as a Facilities Management Coordinator where he is responsible for all operations related to buildings and grounds maintenance at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, WakeMed Soccer Park, Middle Creek Community Park and Mills Park Middle School. Jimmy has been integral in helping to host many major sporting events at these venues including the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Soccer College Cup, ACC Soccer events, international soccer matches, training site for the US Men’s National Team prior to the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, the USA Olympic Baseball team, and the NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship. Prior to joining the Town of Cary, Jimmy was employed by the University of South Carolina as a Grounds Supervisor.
Jimmy is currently serving his second term on the Board of Directors for the STMA as the director for the Parks and Recreation category. He formerly served on the Board of Directors, as treasurer, of the Turfgrass Council of North Carolina for 3 years. A past president of the North Carolina Chapter of the Sports Turf Managers Association, he now serves as the chair of the Environmental Committee for the Sports Turf Managers Association and previously served on the STMA Conference Education Committee, as well as the Finance and Audit committee. Jimmy earned his Certified Sports Field Manager designation in 2008. He was named a 2014 Outstanding Young Alumnus for NC State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

He is passionate about giving back to the industry and furthering the profession. Jimmy established an internship program at the Town of Cary that employs several students annually. He also returns to NC State each semester to address Turfgrass Management students. In addition, he co-founded a scholarship golf tournament with the NC/SC STMA that has awarded $24,000 in scholarships to turfgrass students in the Carolinas over the last six years.

Vision for STMA

As a long-standing member of the STMA, I have benefitted greatly from the opportunities for knowledge, networking and connections the association offers. We must continue to evolve and adapt our offerings to ensure we remain relevant to today’s (and tomorrow’s) Sports Turf Managers.

However, I believe the STMA must also expand its external outreach efforts to the public, our supervisors and the end-users of our facilities. Collectively, we need to increase awareness of the relevance and impact that a Sports Turf Manager has on the success and safety of athletic facilities.

I am proud to see the growth of the STMA over the last few years and look forward to the future as we develop the new narrative of the modern Sports Turf Manager.

The Toro Company, Minneapolis, MN

Boyd is the North American Sports Field & Grounds Regional Business Manager for the commercial products division of The Toro Company. He has been with Toro for over 13+ years. Prior to that he was the Facilities & Maintenance Director for Sylvania Recreation Corporation in Sylvania, Ohio. Boyd was the co-founder of the Ohio STMA Chapter and was on the STMA Board until he took the position with Toro. He has also served as Chairmen of the SAFE Foundation. Boyd was honored by the STMA with the George Toma Golden Rake Award in 1999 and the Harry Gill Award in 2006. He has served on numerous committees and does a number of speaking events around the country. Boyd is also an adjunct professor at Kansas State University.

Vision for STMA

The STMA is made up of passionate sports turf managers that strive to produce outstanding playing surfaces for their customers. Through all my travels I continue to be amazed at how our members produce outstanding surfaces with sometimes minimal inputs. Being involved with the association for as long as I have been has really been a true honor. To see our members continue to grow professionally and establish the STMA members as the leaders in the industry is pleasure.

As expectations and regulations continue to grow for playing surfaces our members and the association continue to evolve to be on the forefront of these changes. STMA success breeds from the passion, connection, and communication of our members. Involvement and support of the membership must be unified to help guide us into the future. STMA is also poised to reach out to other aligned associations to help strengthen not only the industry, but to help guide perceptions and change to those that are making regulations affecting our members.

STMA’s commercial membership plays an critical role as new technologies and innovation will help support the efforts of the members. Members support of the commercial membership is critical so that they can continue to invest into the sports turf industry to help provide those critical tools that members need to provide first class playing surfaces.

Texas A&M Athletic Department, College Station, TX

Nick McKenna, CSFM, is the Assistant Athletic Field Maintenance Manager at Texas A&M University. Nick returned to Texas A&M in August 2011 after having spent 4 years working for Virginia Tech overseeing their baseball and soccer/lacrosse facilities. He currently assists in overseeing the management practices for all of the athletics fields at Texas A&M, which include Kyle Field, the Coolidge Football Practice Fields, Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park (baseball), Ellis Field (soccer) and Davis Diamond (softball). This is Nick’s second stint at Texas A&M, where he also served as an assistant groundskeeper from 2003-2005.

Nick received his B.S. from Iowa State University in Horticulture with a turfgrass emphasis. While at Iowa State, he served as an athletic field intern during his final semester in school. Nick also completed coursework and research towards an M.S. in Crop Soils & Environmental Science at Virginia Tech, and in 2007 was the recipient of the Dr. James Watson SAFE scholarship.

Nick has served on numerous STMA committees and achieved CSFM status in January 2011. He briefly served on the Board of Directors for the Virginia STMA before returning to Texas where he has served on the TXSTMA Board since 2012.

Vision for STMA

Aside from providing safe athletic surfaces on a continual basis, my primary role as an athletic field manager is to educate the public about our profession and to develop the next generation of athletic field managers. In my experience, the STMA is the single greatest resource we have to support that mission by providing us with the network, tools, and information needed to succeed in this endeavor. It would be a privilege to continue to give back to an organization that has provided so much to me.

My vision for STMA is to continue to promote our position as “Experts in the Field, Partners in the Game”. An organization is only as good as its membership, so we must strive to find ways to grow our membership and help them in as many ways as possible. We need to continue to develop ideas, programs, and resources for our membership to help them advocate their positions and to educate the public about the importance of safe, environmentally responsible, and functional athletic fields.

Additionally, I would like to see the organization continue to grow and develop our professional image and to establish ourselves as true experts within the industry. We need to continue to advocate for our membership and stay on the forefront of potential issues that our industry has faced and will continue to face in the coming years.

Schools K-12 Director, Sun Roesslein, CSFM

Jeffco Schools, Golden, CO

Sun Roesslein, CSFM, has been Sports Stadium Manager at the North Area Athletic Complex for 13 years. She is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the football stadium and the soccer stadium which make up the NAAC. The complex is the home field for 6 of the high schools in the Jefferson County School District. Sun got her start in the turfgrass management industry working on the grounds crew for the Lexington Legends Minor League baseball team in 2001. After moving to Denver she worked briefly for the City of Thornton before taking her current position with Jeffco Schools Athletics. In 2014, the NAAC soccer field was awarded STMA’s Soccer Field of the Year for the Schools and Parks category. The following year, the NAAC football field was selected as STMA’s 2015 Football Field of the Year in the same category.

Sun received her B.S. in 2000 and M.S. in 2002 from Eastern Kentucky University in Sports Administration. It was during her final semester that she discovered the turfgrass industry and decided to make a career path change. She became a member of STMA in 2002. She is a Past President of the Rocky Mountain Regional Turfgrass Association, served on the CSTMA Board of Directors, and has been a member of STMA’s Ethics committee, Website/ Technology committee and is currently Chair of the Membership committee. Sun has been the Director representing the K-12 segment of the membership on the STMA Board for two years. In July of 2016, Sun earned her CSFM designation.

Vision for STMA

The STMA membership is a group of passionate, talented, driven and dedicated people who make this industry a great one! I believe the Association plays a crucial role in supporting the success of sports turf managers through education, networking, certifications, and awareness. I envision STMA and our membership to continue being the industry leaders in sports field management around the world. Through education and collaboration we get innovation, and through innovation we become better field managers. STMA provides these opportunities and I have no doubt will continue to do so in the future.

Many of us have responsibilities beyond maintaining our playing surfaces and STMA’s collaboration with other groups in related industries is certainly an area for growth. Whether it is administrative, facility management, or event management, I envision STMA partnering with organizations in those areas to support our membership in their expansion of duties. These collaborations will also increase STMA member’s visibility and credibility among those who do not necessarily understand what all goes into sports turf management.

STMA has enhanced my career tremendously, and I would be honored to continue to help the Association support the successes of members at every level.

Jason Kruse, Ph.D.

University of Florida, Gainesville, FL

Jason Kruse, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Environmental Horticulture at the University of Florida. He serves as the Undergraduate Coordinator for the Department of Environmental Horticulture and teaches courses in Turfgrass Culture and Golf and Sports Turf Management. Dr. Kruse’s responsibilities as a turfgrass specialist include managing the University of Florida turfgrass Envirotron teaching and research facility, providing education and outreach through extension programs, and planning and implementing turfgrass educational field days.. His research program focuses on management of athletic field systems as well how nutrient and water management strategies affect the health and environmental impact of turfgrass systems. Jason has been an active member of STMA since 2007 and has served on the conference planning committee and is currently serving his second term on the international committee.

Vision for STMA

My vision for the STMA is to have it continue its effort to establish itself as the preeminent source of information related to construction and management of sports fields and continuing education for the professionals who manage them. This will require a continued effort to grow membership and outreach efforts so that sports field managers and stakeholders consider membership in STMA as a valuable part of professional development. The STMA will seek opportunities to expand the delivery of educational content and increase certification among its members with the ultimate goal of giving all athletic field managers access to the knowledge needed to maintain safe, playable athletic fields.

Jeremy Bohonko

Jeremy is the National Sports Field Specialist for Ewing Irrigation and Landscape Supply’s North and South Carolina area. Previously he was the Branch Manager of Ewing’s North Charlotte location. Prior to moving to Charlotte in 2010, he worked in inside sales at Ewing’s headquarters in Phoenix.

In his role, he serves a wide variety of customers ranging from sports field managers and golf course professionals to residential and commercial contractors. After finishing his college baseball career, he was the assistant groundskeeper at Hagerstown Suns Municipal Stadium, a minor league baseball facility in Maryland. After that, he relocated and continued his career as an assistant groundskeeper tor the Oakland Athletics at their Phoenix-based spring training facility. He graduated from the College of William and Mary/Shippensburg University with a B.S.BA inMarketing and completed the University of Georgia ‘s Sports Turf grass management certification program. He is involved in the North Carolina chapter of the STMA and currently serves as the commercial vice president. he is also a national STMA member and a member of the Georgia and South Carolina chapters.
Outside of work, Jeremy enjoys spending time and traveling with his family: wife, Toni, and sons Chase and Cooper.

Jason Kopp is a Sales Consultant for Luck Ecosystems, and division of Luck Companies based in Richmond Virginia. Luck Companies was founded in 1923 and believes in igniting the human potential through Values Based Leadership and positively impacting the lives of others. As part of the Luck Companies family of businesses, Luck Ecosystems was founded on the principal of transforming raw materials like aggregates, soil and sand into environmental performance products to optimize sports playing field surfaces, support plant growth, filter storm water and protect areas of land and shore. Jason has been a STMA member for over 20 years either as a Turfgrass Manager or Commercial Member. During this time, he has volunteered his time to serve on the Editorial Committee and Information Outreach Committee which he has been a part of for past 5 years and has contributed articles to SportTurf Magazine on field renovations and proper maintenance of equipment. Recently he was part of the Steering Committee to bring the Mid-Atlantic STMA (MASTMA) chapter back to the Maryland area and serves on that Board of Directors. Prior to joining Luck Ecosystems, Jason worked for the Frederick Keys Baseball Club minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles and supported turf managers in the Washington DC region as an equipment sales rep and as a General Manager for a large landscape / turf renovation company. He is also a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Vision for STMA

To see continued growth in all areas of the association from membership, information and education, and sponsorships from commercial members. To promote our vast reach as “Experts in the Field, Partners in the Game”, we need to find ways to reach more organizations with potential members we can promote the benefits and value membership brings through education and resources both locally and nationally. Support efforts to reach future turf grass managers through local partnerships and STEM programs in elementary, middle, and high school with the hope to increase enroll in turf management programs after high school. Place a great emphasis on BMP for environmental stewardship. Find additional educational opportunities for our members and support for more available certifications. While “professional” education is important, personal health and mental stability are becoming very important as we struggle with finding harmony between work and home life. Support programs for our members to provide assistance and education in these areas as well.

Clark Cox is Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Turf and Landscaping at the University of South Carolina. He oversees the maintenance and development of over 50 acres of sports fields and landscaping used by the Gamecock athletic program. Since coming to the University of South Carolina in 2004, Clark has supervised many athletic field projects including the construction of the new baseball field at Founders Park and the complete renovation of the playing field at Williams-Brice Stadium. Clark holds a Turfgrass Management degree from the North Carolina State University Agricultural Institute where he also served on the grounds staff for 6 years. Clark is past President of the South Carolina STMA Chapter and currently serves as a member of the SouthEast Regional Sports Turf Conference planning committee.

Vision for STMA

I first joined STMA because I felt our industry needed to be seen in a more professional light. STMA has made great strides in that area over the years but there is still a lot of work to do. I would like STMA to continue to promote professionalism among our members at every level. I believe we need to educate all outside the sports turf industry about the professional, passionate, and educated individuals that make up STMA. One day I hope to see our profession recognized by coaches, administrators and fans as an integral part of every sports team or organization.

Rich Watson

Laurel Lawnmower, Blackwood, NJ

Rich Watson is the Municipal Sales Representative for Laurel Lawnmower, Blackwood, NJ. Laurel Lawnmower is a family owned turf and snow removal equipment dealer serving the regional South Jersey area. Rich is also currently the Vice President of Sports Field Managers Association of New Jersey (SFMANJ), the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) NJ Chapter. He has over 30 years of experience in the turf industry.

In 1988 Rich was hired for a grounds position at Overbrook High School, Pine Hill, NJ. Athletic field management quickly became a burning passion Over the years, Rich worked his way from grounds crew member to Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds when he retired in 2015 from service to the State of New Jersey. The path from start to finish wan not a straight one. Along the way Rich managed a municipal baseball and softball complex, became the Grounds Supervisor and Middle School Building Foreman for Pine Hill Public Schools, owned and operated his own lawn care company, and spread his wings by accepting the Turf Supervisor position for a property management company in Southampton, NY where he managed polo fields, putting greens and croquet courts. Rich’s career has touched on a variety of sports turf experiences on many different levels.

Rich has been involved in continuing education throughout his career. Rutgers University became a trusted resource providing top notch turf education and a sounding board for review of his best practices for turf management. The educational process continued as he became a STMA member in 2003 and attended his first national conference in 2004. Since joining STMA, Rich has been involved on the committee level, written articles for Sportsturf magazine and presented at many conferences speaking on a variety of topics including Integrated Pest Management (IPM), baseball infield maintenance, high school groundskeeping, polo field maintenance and the politics of the environment in sports turf. Rich also represented the STMA by speaking at the National Recreation and Parks Conference and by staffing the STMA booth at the Green Sports Alliance Conference. The highlight of Rich’s involvement with STMA came in 2013 when he was awarded the Dick Erickson Founders Award.

After serving on the SFMANJ Board of Directors for four years, Rich became president of the association in 2014. During his tenure as president, he was instrumental in the creation of the Dr. Henry Indyk Founders Award. Dr. Indyk was the driving force behind the creation of SFMANJ and a mentor to Rich.

Rich is enjoys working with sports turf managers in the South Jersey area by providing them with the proper equipment and training to help manage their facilities. Life has come full circle for him. As a young man, he attended continuing education classes at Rutgers University which helped build his confidence and, in-turn, propelled his career in the turf industry. Today he is an Instructor for the University’s continuing education program where he shares his experiences about baseball infield maintenance and IPM.

Vision for STMA

My vision for the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) has always been to help and bring together as many people as possible. Specifically, my goal has been to identify quality, non-industry engaged turf managers and get them involved. As a sports field manager for 23 years at one facility, my contact with those outside the sphere in which I worked was somewhat limited; I was able to help some but always felt there was more that could be done. As I have transitioned from sports turf manager to commercial sales representative, it has provided me the unique opportunity to continue the process of engaging sports turf managers within the larger industry – but with greater success! My current position has given me the opportunity to meet and work with many new turf managers. I travel on a daily basis and have the opportunity to get folks involved with Sports Field Managers Association of New Jersey (SFMANJ) as well as STMA. I would love to see a coordinated effort from the commercial members of STMA and its affiliated Chapters to engage with and develop new members. It’s a natural fit. We are a built-in support system for the sports turf manager. In closing, it has been an honor to be associated with the STMA for the past 15 years. Over that time, the Association has truly given me more than I could possibly give back. I would like to provide others with the same opportunity that I have enjoyed.

James Bergdoll, CSFM is the Director of Park Maintenance for the City of Chattanooga (TN) Department of Public Works, a position he has held since 2015. Bergdoll oversees the maintenance and operations of over 100 public spaces throughout the City of Chattanooga, including 84 parks, 35 miles of greenway, multiple youth sports association facilities and 2 golf courses. He holds a MS in Sports and Recreation Administration from Western Kentucky University and a BS in Turfgrass Science from Purdue University. Prior to serving the citizens of Chattanooga, Bergdoll oversaw the design, construction, and operations of Elizabethtown (KY) Sports Park. He also gained industry experience at the International Polo Club Palm Beach, Baltimore Orioles Spring Training, Indianapolis Indians, Purdue Athletics (Golf & Sports Fields), and Hanover College. Bergdoll has been a member of the STMA since 2004, serving on several different committees, and achieved CSFM status in 2013. Bergdoll is a Past President of the Kentucky STMA, and is currently a member of the TVSTMA and APWA.

Vision for STMA

First and foremost, my vision for STMA is to continue to help colleagues in the industry work towards having high quality athletic fields that are safe, play extraordinary, sustainable, and are aesthetically pleasing. I see the STMA as part of continued insight into sustainable management practices along with using new technologies to facilitate better stewardship of the Earth. Lastly, my vision for the STMA involves the continued promotion of awareness to the work that sports turf managers take part in and maintain increased recognition as a profession. From a Parks and Recreation standpoint, it is important to educate the general public and its leaders on the importance of sport field management and how it positively impacts those that use public facilities, primarily our youth.

Stephen Lord, CSFM

Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati, OH

Steve Lord was named to his current position on March 20, 2015, and oversees all aspects of the daily playing field maintenance at Great American Ball Park. He is a 2008 graduate of Michigan State University with bachelor’s degrees in both turfgrass management and general management. Before he joined the Reds, Steve spent the previous six seasons as assistant director of MLB grounds with the Texas Rangers. While in Texas, in 2010 and 2011 Steve was part of the club’s first ever trips to the World Series. He has been an active member on various committees with the SportsTurf Managers Association and a speaker at the organization’s national conference. In January 2015, Steve obtained his recognition as a Certified Sports Field Manager from the STMA. In December 2015, Steve and crew were awarded the Ohio SportsTurf Managers Field of the Year Award for that season. Steve resides in Cincinnati with wife Katie and son Breslin.

Vision for STMA

I see the STMA as an opportunity for all industry professionals to not only raise awareness of the safe and playable surfaces we produce, but to create a platform for which we share ideas, information, experiences, and goals to become leaders worldwide. I embrace the notion that we have to continue to build professionalism across the industry in order to break the stereotype of the ‘dirty person who mows the field’. We all serve the industry not just to make beautiful playing fields, but to be pillars in our communities who set the stages for our friends, families, and superstars to make their dreams come true. Allen Reed, CSFM

FC Dallas, Dallas, TX

Allen is the Director of Stadium Grounds for FC Dallas/Toyota Stadium. He has been with FC Dallas since 2005. He is responsible for the day to day management of the stadium and first team training pitch. Toyota Stadium plays host to an average of 100 plus events a year, mainly consisting of soccer matches, football games and major concerts. Allen and his staff achieved the honor of Sports Turf Managers Association’s Professional Soccer Field of the Year in 2012. Prior to him joining FC Dallas, Allen attended college at Texas A&M University from 2000-2004, where he majored in Turfgrass Management and worked for the Athletic Department’s Field Staff. Allen earned the designation of Certified Sports Field Manager 2014.

Vision for STMA

As the sports turf industry continues to grow professionally in the eyes of many, we need to continue growing with our education. Educating the media, the public, our athletes, our coaches and our administrators on the important role turf managers play in providing safe/playable fields. With the great demand organizations are placing on our playing surfaces, we need to embrace this challenge and continue to work as an organization to help each member meet these demands. Education plays a key role in making this possible. We need to be forward thinking and embrace the new information and technology that is available to us that was not here just a few years ago. We live in a time where anything is possible and I truly believe this every day. With the right education and tools we can continue to grow our organization as the leader in sports field management.

Jeremy Driscoll

St. Mark’s High School, Wilmington, DE

Jeremy Driscoll is the Grounds Supervisor at St. Mark’s High School in Wilmington, DE from where he is an alumnus (class of ‘95).  He has been overseeing all of the campus and athletic fields encompassing approximately 50 total acres since 2006.  Always educating himself and finding new things to study.  He began his higher education at Paul Smith’s College in Paul Smith’s, NY.  Studying Urban Tree Management, he earned his A.A.S in 1997.  Jeremy furthered his education at the University of Delaware receiving in 2000 his B.S in General Agriculture.

Jeremy has been an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist since 2002.  He has a Class B CDL license which he acquired while working for the city of Beaver Creek, CO.  A licensed pesticide applicator in NY and DE.  He is Mauget Certified and a DE Certified Nutrient Handler.

Jeremy has been a member of ISA for over 20 years.  He became a member of STMA immediately in 2006, when he took his current position.  He is presently serving on the editorial committee.  He is a co founder of one of the newest chapters under STMA, MASTMA (Mid-Atlantic).  Serving as Vice President over the last two years, and chairing the membership committee.

Jeremy is a black belt in taekwondo and is preparing to test to acquire his second degree in the martial art.  Where principles of focus, goal setting, respect, motivation and honor transfer into everyday life.  Never give up, and ALWAYS finish what you start!

Jeremy resides in Wilmington, DE with his wife Susan and son Eughan (Owen).

Vision for STMA

My vision for STMA is to see the organization grow stronger. I would like individuals not in our profession to know the sports turf professionals who take care of their kids sports facilities, school grounds, and professional stadiums. I would like to see the organization build stronger bonds with legislation to educate and keep our products (pesticides , fertilizer etc..)that work in our tool box and not allow governing bodies to continue to take away products that help us professionals complete our job. I would like to see the organization be able to give back to more communities helping under privileged areas build or rejuvenate sport fields to get kids outside exercise and provide safer fields or areas to participate in multiple sports and activities.

Will Rogers, CSFM

Clover School District, Clover, SC

Will Rogers has been in the lead grounds maintenance position for 21 years for the Clover School District in Clover, South Carolina. Prior to his position in Clover, Will also worked for the City of York, South Carolina (buildings and grounds Supt.), the Town of Clover(assistant Recreation Director) and for River Hill Golf Course. While employed with the Town of Clover and city of York, Will was instrumental in the design and construction phrases of several multi-field recreation complexes. It was in these early years of Will’s career that he gained invaluable knowledge of the Sports Turf industry and a love for every aspect of the field.

Will is a past President of the South Carolina S.T.M.A. and currently serves on the S.C.S.T.M.A. Board of Directors.

Will earned his C.S.F.M. in 2015 and continues to give back by proctoring the C.S.F.M. exam every year at the Southeast Regional Sports Turf Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He also enjoys volunteering to help with the Student Challenge at the S.T.M.A. National Conference.

Will has a certification with the University of Georgia Continuing Education program in Sports Turf Management and also is a South Carolina Certified Nursery Professional.
Clover School District has won a National Field of the Year four years in a row with three different fields. Will is very fortunate to have been surrounded by such good Coworkers and he credits his Coworkers as a big part of his success. Will is currently serving on the S.T.M.A. Education and C.S.F.M. Committees.

Will is married to Rinne and she is his biggest supporter. Will enjoys spending time with his family and serving his Lord Jesus Christ.

Vision for STMA

Education should be one of our top priorities. We should make sure all members has the opportunity to be successful. Our conference is the most important part of our education. If we can be successful at educating our members, We will be a successful organization. We need to continue to send out surveys, So we know what our members like and dislike. I would like to see us promote our certification program more in the future. We need to let people know how important it is to become certified. Technology will be very important in years to come. We as a organization should make sure we are keeping up with technology as much as we can.
